Business Unit Finance Controller

JR Automation, LLC a strong, high-growth company, has an excellent opportunity for an outstanding individual to join us as a Business Unit (BU) Finance Controller at our Liberty, South Carolina site. The successful candidate will play a key role, be looked to by top management as the accounting/finance expert and will be the internal business consultant for the Business Unit (BU) Managers in South Carolina. 

The successful candidate will be an experienced hands-on Financial Controller who will focus and accountable for a broad range of activities, including improving the BU performance (both financial and operationally) and connecting the BU performance to the overall gross profit & EBITDA performance of JR Automation.  This includes supporting the quoting, orders, costs, gross profit, EBITDA, safety, quality, delivery and working capital efforts of the BU through financial and operational metrics and analysis.

The BU Finance Controller will be an experienced, self-starter, highly driven, results-oriented, hands-on Financial Controller who is accountable for the day-to-day financial operations of the business unit, including, but not limited to the following:

Reporting and analysis of financial results related to the BU.

Engaging with the Accounting Team during the monthly close process, and assisting with the related entries and reconciliations and the continuous improvement of those tasks and activities, in partnership with the Accounting Team.

Preparation of monthly financial forecasts for the BU.

Preparation of the BU annual operating plan (AOP) and related processes, which includes collaboration with the BU Managers and support of the VP of FP&A in the strategic planning process.

Working capital management through engagement with the BU Managers during the quote process to assist with credit terms negotiations.

Driving financial process enhancements which includes the implementation of Lean Accounting methodologies, financial continuous improvement activities and participation in BU continuous improvement events and a link of those activities to the financial results of the BU.

Provide support to the Accounting Manager regarding the WIP and Capacity reviews for each job within your respective BU, which drives monthly revenue recognition (% of completion method).

Provide support to the VP of Finance & Accounting for the continuous improvement of JR Automation IT systems and related management reporting for the BU. This includes engaging in Great Plains, Baan, Operations Manager, and Excel systems and management reporting enhancements.

Responsible for assisting with contract administration, including interpretation of contract provisions that may impact program management and achievement of project financial targets.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.

10+ years of progressive Finance or Accounting experience

5+ years’ experience working in a manufacturing environment preferably Engineer-to-Order (ETO)

Must have a solid understanding of contract administration and interpretation

Demonstrated ability to link and analyze operational metrics to financial performance

Advanced Microsoft Office Skills

  • Mentor and coach project managers and subordinates, especially in in requirements definition, compliance, planning, costing, and risk management.

  • Develop and maintain a PM knowledge management process / system.
  • For key projects, create a reporting mechanism to provide schedule and budget status to management.

  • Directly manage “critical” projects as determined by management.
  • Identify and implement potential improvements needed to support project, program and portfolio efforts.

What will your typical week consist of?

Schedule all order pick-up and deliveries related to LTL freight and small parcel packages (i.e. FedEx/UPS).
Adhere to all client shipping guidelines and standards including routing and packaging instructions.
Coordinate with other functional areas and logistics team members to implement best practices, with the end goal of driving improved continuous material flow.
Perform paperwork validation on all incoming shipments to ensure PO, job, and item detail is accurate and complete.
Enter packing list paperwork information into Ops Manager.
Engage build team and engineers in Quality Control review on all incoming shipments.
Demonstrate strong working relationships with internal and external customers, including coworkers, management, carriers, supply chain, and vendors.
Deliver timely communications on exceptions or unforeseen changes in shipping, as well as shipment status, tracking information, insurance, and claim detail, etc.
Represent a critical on-site presence to internal customers and maintains a proper professional approach in all types of interactions.

Ensure purchasing, receiving, and accounting related documentation is routed correctly and filed accurately and neatly. 

Process problem invoices through the enlighten platform.
Initiate PRS process for all JR returns, including logging and tracking root cause reason codes.
Track and manage fleet car sign-out at each respective BU location.

Mechanical Engineering Intern
Evan Finses - Michigan State University

Evan Finses is a Mechanical Engineering Intern at JR’s Quality Drive facility. Having learned about JR through a JR employee and longtime friend, Evan was compelled to check out the internship program, saying “I saw how JR was really pushing the limits within automated manufacturing and was fascinated. It was so different than many companies, and that really caught my attention.” He finds the work he is doing incredibly rewarding, especially seeing the components he designs being built on the shop floor. He says, “I really enjoyed seeing my idea come to life and how it worked with everyone else’s designs.” JR’s culture is also a rewarding part of Evan’s internship. He notes that the people are extremely friendly and the atmosphere is very positive. “Popcorn Friday isn’t too bad either,” he adds. After Evan completes his internship, he’ll return to Michigan State University to continue his Mechanical Engineering degree.

Mary Fundenberger - Purdue University

Mary Fundenberger is a Mechanical Engineering Intern at JR’s Tyler Street facility. She’s in her junior year at Purdue University. Mary learned about JR at the Purdue career fair and was interested immediately, saying, “The moment [they] mentioned design opportunities, I was hooked. I’ve always wanted to work as an engineer in design, and this internship has exposed me to more design work than I imagined.” She finds it rewarding to be solving new and challenging problems each day. She explains, “I’ve learned a great deal about the industry standards (more than I’ve learned in some of my classes), and that in itself is satisfying.” Mary’s enjoying her summer at JR, adding that the company culture is her favorite part, “The people are friendly and inviting. It’s a great place to work.”

Controls Engineering Intern
Matt Williams - Grand Valley State University

Matt Williams a Controls Engineering Intern at JR’s Tyler Street facility. Having been assigned to learn about JR through a Grand Valley State University internship prep course, Matt researched the type of projects made at JR and met with the recruiting team to discuss the opportunities that JR offers. This interaction compelled Matt to join the JR team, saying, “I saw a great opportunity here at JR to be able to get first-hand industry experience while still having the ability to grow both professionally and technically. Also, I learned that JR had a really good culture.” Since starting, Matt has been working on the controls for a complex, large-system machine. He’s found it most rewarding to see the machine being built and knowing that “nearly two months of design work is manifesting into something tangible. It gives me a great sense of accomplishment.” He adds, “I’ve never once felt ‘held back’ in any way. If anything, it’s the exact opposite; I spend a lot of my time outside of my comfort zone. This is a good thing because that’s where growth occurs.” Matt plans to complete his internship rounds at JR while he finishes his last two years of school.
