Big Data

This group's work with Big Data turns vast amounts of production data into concise numbers that help our customers optimize their processes. Examples include:
  • Andon display boards that increase visibility of a machine's current status and production counts
  • Data collection, mining, and analytics programs
  • Integrating equipment with existing customer MES systems and other business systems

Process Improvement

Process Improvement means leveraging custom developed software to optimize tasks and processes further than typical automation hardware capabilities. Examples include:

  • Custom Internet-based recipe management portals that allow our customers to configure a wider range of parts 
  • Custom software programs that allow customers to import CAD data and then mathematically optimize robot paths to reduce cycle times
  • Software which can automatically synchronize existing robot programs

Software R&D

The group's R&D work monitors macro industry trends and then uses software to rapidly prototype products to determine the feasibility of integrating new technology into our customer solutions. The Software Integration Team has already developed:
  • Operator guidance platforms with consumer devices like Google Glass and Microsoft Kinect
  • Mobile phones and other non-standard industrial tools that connect to the internet to increase machine visibility and expand machine functionality
  • An understanding of the application of collaborative robots, which can work directly with operators without mechanical guarding

Pro Engineer
JR is a PTC recognized "high end" user of Pro Engineer design software. Our highly motivated and trained staff uses PRO-E to its fullest extent, including:

  • Automatic propagation of design changes to all down stream deliverables. 
  • Automated generation of associated tooling and manufacturing deliverables. 
  • Fully integrated applications that allow us to work from concept through manufacturing.

Finite Element Analysis

Finite Element Analysis (FEA) verifies performance requirements for a variety of components ranging from large press frames to small forming tools. 

The image above shows a C-frame as load pressure is applied. FEA structural analysis of this C-frame showed it could handle a reduction in materials by 25% while still maintaining structural integrity; making for a rugged design with a small footprint.

The image shown above also includes the model analysis of a spindle highlighting the modes or natural frequencies of the part. By knowing and controlling the natural frequencies of the machine components, we can build more accurate and reliable machines.
